Dutch food group Prinsen, manufacturers of Maxim Nutritionals, and
Zoeller Marketing (ZMI), distributors of the Extran Professional
line, have joined up to create a new sports nutrition company for
the US markets, namely PZ Sports Nutritionals (PZSN).

Larry Zoeller, the director of marketing at Zoeller, explained that the new venture would be focusing initially on the US and Canada.

"After the first year we will turn our attention to Latin America," he said. "We have had lots of interest from Mexico and would also expect to focus on Costa Rica and Puerto Rica."

Prinsen is a functional food and sports nutrition product manufacturer which markets the brand of sports supplements Maxim Nutritionals through its Maxim Europe subsidiary. Maxim Europe recently acquired Extran Professional from the Netherlands-based company Royal Numico.

"With the Maxim and the Extran Professional brands, we expect PZSN to become the leading supplier of sports nutritionals in the Americas," said Robert Prinsen, the CEO of Prinsen.

"We are committed to the health and success of active sports enthusiasts and have a host of new and innovative products, in addition to the present line, that will soon be available," he added.

Larry Zoeller said they are looking at marketing a protein-based recovery product and will be incorporating their successful line of sports bars into the Maxim range, before investigating innovative products for energy and vitality.

And as for South America? "When we move into these countries we will look at the competition and see what is already used and what products we need to customize for these markets," he said.
