What does the future hold for health and nutrition?

A new multi-stakeholder project on the future of the nutrition and
health trend in Europe is to be launched by two Belgium-based
consultancy firms. The project, entitled Nutrition and Health 2020,
will explore how the nutrition and health trend could shape the
business and regulatory environment in the next few decades.

A new multi-stakeholder project on the future of the nutrition and health trend in Europe is to be launched by two Belgium-based consultancy firms. The project, entitled Nutrition and Health 2020, will explore how the nutrition and health trend could shape the business and regulatory environment in the next few decades.

According to the organisers, Bio-Sense and WS, the project will be based on the interactive scenario planning methodology, and should enable a large number of stakeholders to jointly learn about the deeper drivers behind the changes expected in the nutrition and health sector.

The project will bring together food, retail, ingredient, pharmacy, biotechnology, micro-electronic and insurance industries as well as representatives from society such as regulators, scientists, medical professionals and consumer interest groups.

The aim of the project is to build a set of future scenarios reflecting how a wide range of driving forces may interact to arrive at a new set of values and opinions about the role of nutrition and health. This, the organizers claim, will provide a deeper insight into possible answers to questions currently raised by the industry - such as how will food and health products transform the future business and regulatory environment and what opportunities for economic and societal value creation will exist in the future?

Participants in the project will discover a comprehensive planning context for strategic decision making, the organisers hope. It should also be a great opportunity to network with different industries that are also confronted with the nutrition and health trend and to find out how they view risks and opportunities. Bio-Sense and WS plan to start the process in September 2003 and are currently inviting interested parties to contact them via the project's website.
