US launch for Omega-3 products
Omega-3 fatty acid products to its successful Marinol line in the
US, offering the products with higher concentrations of DHA than
its existing Marinol range there.
Dutch group Loders Croklaan Lipid Nutrition, a global leader in lipid-based health ingredients, has added two new marine based Omega-3 fatty acid products to its successful Marinol line.
Marinol D-40 Oil and Marinol DHA Powder are available for a variety of food applications, and both new products feature high concentrations of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and, claims Loders Croklaan, possess the same superior taste profile as the other products in the Marinol line.
Marinol D-40 and Marinol DHA Powder have a minimum of 40 per cent and 20 per cent DHA respectively, as well as a lower concentration of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Higher concentrations of DHA have been linked to brain and eye development, and Loders Croklaan claims that the new Marinol products are therefore particularly well-suited for food applications where the unique selling point to the consumer is the high concentration of DHA.
"Because Marinol products have a low impact on the taste of the end product, many of our Marinol customers asked for a formulation with a higher DHA concentration for use in their functional food applications," said David R. Lewis, business unit manager, North America, for Loders Croklaan.
"As a result, they now have a product that targets eye and brain development benefits and overcomes the taste issues typically associated with marine-based products."
Marinol D-40 and Marinol DHA Powder join Marinol C-38 and Marinol Powder to round out the Marinol line available in the US. All Marinol products are manufactured using a natural process that effectively reduces the fish odor and taste typically associated with Omega-3 fatty acids.
The Marinol powder products are said to be easily dry blended with other ingredients, making them ideal for bread, biscuit and other bakery applications. Since they will not interfere with taste profiles, the oil products can be added to wet sauce formulations, salad dressings, milk and wet soup applications, the company said.
Loders Croklaan Lipid Nutrition offer a variety of lipid-based health ingredients including Clarinol CLA for weight management, Marinol fish oil concentrates for cardiovascular health, brain development and joint health, Membranol fractionated lecithin for cardiovascular health, liver health and memory improvement, and Betapol human milk fat replacers for baby food.
