A new isotonic energy drink called Combat Cooler is being developed for inclusion in ready-to-eat meals produced for soldiers.

The manufacturer, Nautilus Mineral Waters of America, claims the beverage will improve soldiers' performance under tough physical conditions.

"If you take soldiers that are stressed by lack of sleep, operations, and extreme heat, you find they aren't eating or drinking adequately, but a scientifically formulated isotonic energy drink may be something to restore their performance to what a normal rested, well-fed and hydrated soldier would be," said Jeff Weiss, president and CEO of Nautilus.

Combat Cooler is packaged in 250ml cans with desert camouflage packaging graphics.

Unlike conventional soft drinks Combat Cooler contains 30 per cent less sugar and is isotonic so it replaces electrolytes, claims the company. The product is said to comply with all government specifications.

Nautilus Mineral Waters of America products are licensed and developed in-house, for private label store brands or co-brands which are bottled at locations in the United States and Canada.
