US retailer The Vitamin Shoppe has signed a multi-year agreement with information provider Healthnotes to use its applications both online and in-store.

Healthnotes will be presented to customers on touchscreen kiosks in all of The Vitamin Shoppe's 114 locations and will be incorporated in future stores. The Vitamin Shoppe expects outlets to increase to approximately 130 stores by the third quarter of this year.

Healthnotes will also be integrated into The Vitamin Shoppe website and targeted to specific product areas, offering visitors more direct access to the information. Customers can currently access Healthnotes at www.VitaminShoppe.com (click "Health Guide" on the top navigation bar).

"Recent studies have shown that by providing information that answers shoppers' questions, retailers can improve customer service and drive product sales," said Schuyler Lininger, HNI president and CEO.

Healthnotes provides in-depth, practical information on health concerns, vitamins, supplements, herbal remedies and foods and also includes information on sports nutrition and weight management.

The Vitamin Shoppe has been using Healthnotes since 1999. Jeffrey Horowitz, founder and CEO, said: "By offering Healthnotes, we allow [our customers] an opportunity to learn more about vitamins, supplements, sports nutrition, drug interactions, and much more, in order to make appropriate personal choices."
