Alternativa Natural​ has announced that it is to market the natural antioxidant Origanox, produced by RAD Natural Technologies, as a dietary supplement available for the health, food and cosmeceutical industries.
Produced in-house by Alternativa, Origanox Superior Natural Anti-Oxidant supplement is standardised to contain a minimum of 7 per cent of rosmarinic acid, the active ingredient.
Rosmarinic acid is a free radical scavenger and also inhibits biological processes associated with inflammation, allergic reactions and ageing processes. The company claims that this is the first time that rosmarinic acid is available as an active ingredient in a dietary supplement.
Origanox is made from Origanum Vulgare​, an oregano species that contains a high natural concentration of rosmarinic acid. This species belongs to the Labiatae family​ which includes rosemary, melissa and sage - plants used as medicinal herbs for thousands of years in many countries.
Unlike most antioxidants, Origanox is stable at high temperatures and therefore can be used to preserve baked and fried products and delay rancidity of the baking and frying oils used.
