A licence granting Carolwood Corporation the right to produce products containing methyl-sulfonyl-methane (MSM) has been revoked by the product's creator MSM Investments.

MSM is used in a number of supplements designed to treat arthritis and other inflammatory conditions, and was created by Robert Herschler, the head of MSM Investments.

Herschler said that he had terminated the agreement with Carolwood on 15 May 2002 after Carolwood failed to pay royalties and therefore breached the terms of the licensing agreement signed in December 1999.

MSM Investments sued Carolwood in April 2001 in a federal court in Oregon for breach of contract and other claims. That lawsuit is still pending, Herschler said.

Carolwood was not the sole licensee for MSM, however. Cardinal Nutrition of Vancouver, Washington, and Chemiplus, located in Japan, will still be able to produce and market MSM products.
