US company Improvita Health Products, Inc. announced recently the completion of a double-blind scientific pilot study on its cold cure product, Runny Rhino Cold Relief Pops® with Chelated Zinc. According to the pilot study, a randomised, double-blind placebo-controlled study of 10 per cent amino acid zinc chelate lollipop for treating the common cold in children and adults, the main findings suggest that with application beginning when the first signs of cold symptoms occur, Runny Rhino Cold Relief Pops® could relieve the severity. The study, lead by Dr. Tanya Edwards and Dr. Darrell Hulisz at University School of Medicine in Cleveland, followed forty-one children and adult outpatients with seasonal cold symptoms. Eighteen patients received active zinc product and 23 received the placebo. Cold symptoms were completely resolved by Day 4 in 50 per cent of zinc treated patients, and in 29 per cent of placebo recipients. Improvita Health claims that the study demonstrates that the amino acid chelated 10 per cent zinc acetate is safe for treating symptoms of the common cold, and appears to be more effective than placebo.
