Health Canada grants PLT long list of joint health and cartilage claims
The subject of a growing body of randomized, double-blind human clinical trials, the ingredient is a patented, low-dose Boswellia serrata gum resin extract, known for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
“With four gold-standard human clinical trials and counting, we are proud that AprèsFlex is one of the best substantiated joint health ingredients on the market today, powering some of the leading joint health consumer brands around the world,” said Seth Flowerman, president and CEO of PLT Health Solutions. “Health Canada is well known for [its] rigorous scientific review process and the breadth and quality of claims permitted speaks to the high quality of science on this ingredient.”
The latest addition to the science, a PLT-led study published last month in the journal Current Developments in Nutrition, evaluated the effects of six months of 100 mg/day of AprèsFlex supplementation in normal-to-overweight women and men between the ages of 40 and 75, compared to placebo. Endpoints evaluated included pain, functional mobility, inflammation and knee joint cartilage architecture.
“Six months of standardized boswellia extract supplementation mitigates joint pain and inflammation, improves mobility and provides protective properties to knee joint cartilage in adults with mild to moderate osteoarthritis,” the study concluded.
