“Pedialyte’s original formulations were designed to help sick children recover from illness by supporting their rehydration needs, but we’ve recognized that adults have been using the product for decades and there was a need to create formulas that more specifically address a variety of hydration needs for all ages,” said Chris Calamari, vice president and general manager in Abbott’s U.S. Nutrition business.
“Our team of scientists, who have been studying nutrition for decades, created a new product designed specifically for athletes of all ages to provide optimal hydration and muscle support before, during, and after intense exercise.”
According to Abbott, the brand has grown at a double-digit rate for the last five years and adult usage now accounts for more than 50% of Pedialyte’s overall sales.
The new Pedialyte Sport range, which is already available at Walmart and Amazon, is part of a new range of expansion products for the Pedialyte portfolio being launched this year. Others include Pedialyte with Immune Support, Pedialyte Organic, and Pedialyte Electrolyte Water.
