"The term ‘biotransformation’ may be unfamiliar to some in the industry, but it refers to fermentation and other natural processing methods that involve transforming compounds within a living system,” explained Gnosis by Lesaffre General Manager Marc Philouze. “It describes exactly what we do. We use living microorganisms to transform compounds into usable nutritional actives.”
The company draws on its focused research and applications capabilities to collaborate with dietary supplement, functional food and beverage, as well as pharmaceutical brands to develop products for their customers. Key markets include: Wellness & Immune Health, Digestion & Gut Health, Mobility & Joint Health, Reproduction & Women’s Health, and Mood & Cognitive Health.
Not surprisingly, Philouze said that the Wellness & Immune health segment is the busiest. On the other hand, Reproduction & Women’s Health is the most overlooked. However, “I think it’s going to grow in the coming years and we want to be part of that,” added Philouze.
With leaders in human health and nutrition from around the world, Gnosis by Lesaffre is fully integrated.
“One of the benefits of biotransformation and fermentation is that we control everything. That’s part of our business model, to produce mostly internally and for the value we bring to our customers. It’s very localized, we know precisely what we produce and we can optimize that supply chain with our different sites.”
