The IPA World Congress + Probiota Americas 2019 in Vancouver is less than two weeks away, but there’s still time to register to hear from must-see speakers from the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science, the US Army, Danone, Pharmavite, and many more.

Running June 24-26, 2019 at the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, Canada, the IPA World Congress + Probiota Americas is the leading annual event for the prebiotic, probiotic and the microbiota focused food and pharma industries in the Americas.

Strategic and spontaneous communication

After many years of strong growth, global probiotic markets have slowed, and in some instances plateaued. Some of this can be linked to some negative media questioning the potential benefits, and how this had impacted consumer trust.

Dr Brenda MacArthur, Message Design Faculty and Health Communication Research Lead, Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science, will present an interactive session introducing attendees to the Alda Method: Through improvisational exercises and high-energy facilitation, this session will open-up new possibilities for communication through a dual focus on strategy and spontaneity.  Participants gain experience in connecting with their audience and using conversational language to communicate their complex ideas.

This will be followed by a panel discussion with key industry stakeholders about building consumer trust and ensuring consumers are getting the best information.

Other key presentations during the event will include state-of-the-art A.I. approaches to probiotic R&D (or Emergent Intelligence as our expert says), regulatory changes across the Americas (with representatives from Health Canada, ANVISA from Brazil, and ANMAT from Argentina), deep dives into mechanisms of action, and much more.

We’ll also have a presentation from Dr Ida Gisela Pantoja-Feliciano from the US Army Natick Soldier, Research, Development and Engineering Center, who will discuss specific studies from the DoD looking at the microbiota of the military and the impact of diet and stressors, and how nutrition and probiotics might impact on warfighter health and performance.

Fermented Foods Showcase

At the end of the first afternoon of presentations, delegates will be able to sample a range of fermented food and drink from some local Vancouver producers of fermented food and drinks, from Koji to Kimchi and Kombucha to Kefir.
