From an energy drink for gamers to a multivitamin designed for vegans, here are the latest product launches in the dietary supplements and functional food and beverage industry.

1. Pure Protein: 30g Ready-to-Drink Protein Shakes

Pure Protein, a brand of parent company The Nature’s Bounty Co., launched two new ready-to-drink milkshakes containing 30g of protein per serving. The shakes come in Rich Chocolate and Vanilla Milkshake flavors. The shakes are available nationwide at retailers like Walmart, Wegmans, Rite Aid, Meijer, and online on Amazon.

2. Mountain Dew: Mtn Dew Amp Game Fuel

Legacy soda brand Mountain Dew launched a new line called Amp Game Fuel, designed to serve the growing world of high-stakes endurance video gaming. It contains caffeine, L-Theanine, ginseng root extract and yerba mate extract.

The cans have a re-sealable lid, allowing for re-opening and re-closing for uninterrupted game play. Four flavors will be available: Charged Cherry Burst, Charged Cherry Blast, Charged Tropical Strike, and Charged Original DEW.

3. Future Kind: Vegan Multivitamin

These vegan supplements contain the nutrients considered essential for individuals on a vegan diet: vitamins B12 and D3, and omega-3.

"Supplementation for vegans is confusing and often overwhelming, which we experienced first-hand when we began the vegan lifestyle,” said Shaun Cunningham, Future Kind co-founder and CEO.

“Initially, we were exhausted by the conflicting health advice we received on supplementation. Additionally, we were disappointed to learn about the low quality ingredients used to pad out many supplements, and the use of ingredients which often aren’t vegan. So we set out to clarify exactly what vegans need to take, and to make it simpler and easier for those on a plant based diet to get the nutrients they need but can’t get from foods."

4. NaturaNectar: Liquid Red Bee Propolis

This new product is a liquid standardized propolis from NaturaNectar’s own beehives in Brazil.

The propolis, rich in flavonoids and organic aromatic acids, was extracted using the company’s proprietary Green Extraction process, which uses only purified water.

Founder and CEO of NaturaNectar LLC, J.L. Paes-Leme, said “most propolis and other herbal tinctures in the market today are obtained by ethanolic or glycolic extraction. Consumers end up ingesting these chemicals along with their daily servings of those products. It’s a compounding problem, and for us, it’s not acceptable.”

5. Nutiva: Three new flavors of Organic MCT Powder

Nutiva is marketing its line of MCT powders as a source of sustained energy. This newest launch includes three new flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, and Matcha.

The products are made of young organic coconuts and acacia fiber. According to the company, the MCT powder is a creamy alternative to traditional MCT oil and are gentler on digestive systems.

They can be used in hot or cold beverages like smoothies, coffee, tea, water, and more.

6. NOW: BioCell Collagen

NOW Foods has launched a supplement containing a clinically tested collagen by ingredient manufacturer BioCell. The supplement delivers 1,000 mg in two capsules providing 570 mg of Type II collagen peptides, 95 mg of hyaluronic acid, and 190 mg of chondroitin sulfate.

“The strength of the clinically validated science and clinical trials supporting BioCell Collagen was a major factor for NOW in deciding to add this product to our dietary supplement line.”

7. Olympus Labs: Superior Protein

The new Superior Protein product by Olympus Labs features Nutrition 21’s Velositol, which supports the synthesis of protein and BCAAs.

The product contains half micellar casein, half whey protein concentrate per serving. It also contains y-aminobutryic acid in its branded form PharmaGABA, as well as DigeZyme, a multi-enzyme complex that aids with digestion and nutrient absorption.

8. Myos Rens: Yolked

Inrgedient manufacturer Myos Rens, maker and owner of egg yolk ingredient Fortetopin, released a new supplement called Yolked with nationwide distribution in Vitamin Shoppe. Originally announced in April this year, Vitamin Shoppe is the first retailer to distribute the product. It was previously only available to collegiate athletes.

The product was designed to work in conjunction with other sports protein supplements. According to the company, Fortetopin helps the body utilize protein more efficiently. It is made through a patented process that maintains the vital nutrients of fertilized egg yolks.
