SPECIAL EDITION: BEAUTY FROM WITHIN
Hyaluronic acid
A 2014 study published in Nutrition Journal showed that daily oral intake of hyaluronic acid (HA) protected against moisture loss and ultra violet skin damage, boosting the ingredient's reputation in the nutraceutical world.
Big in Asia, hyaluronic acid is in more than one third of Japanese foods making beauty claims, while Japanese company Kewpie has developed a way to produce hyaluronan from fermentation without using animal sources.
Canadian company Deciem, which recently launched its Fountain range in the UK, claims that hyaluronic acid is able to hold 1000 times its weight in water and packs 130 mg of HA in every two teaspoons in its Hyaluronic Molecule product.
