Nutegrity launches mangosteen ingredient for sports nutrition/ joint discomfort markets

Nutegrity has launched new mangosteen-derived ingredient to support a healthy inflammatory response and possibly provide temporary relief of minor muscle pain associated with strenuous activity.

Dubbed the 'Queen of Tropical Fruits, the mangosteen grows from a tropical evergreen tree found in southeast Asia. Its healthy reputation stems from the 40-odd xanthones - polyphenolic compounds that have been researched for their role in immune, joint and intestinal health - which are concentrated in the rind.

Nutegrity’s ThriVexan Mangosteen Extract is harvested from the whole fruit including pericarp, fruit and seeds and is standardized to 10% mangosteenm. “While most mangosteen products are standardized only for alpha mangosteen, ThriVexan is standardized for both alpha and gamma mangosteen content to provide maximum benefits,” added the company.

Matt Phillips, Chief Commercial Officer, Nutegrity, told us the ingredient is positioned for the sports nutrition/ joint discomfort markets. “Other mangosteen extracts are used for other health indications,” he noted.

The ingredient, which is not GRAS, is bitter, but the company has put into a chew with “great success”, said Phillips.

“Mangosteen is one of the world’s most powerful superfruits and ThriVexan fully utilizes the natural xanthone compounds to help deliver a variety of health benefits,” he added.

Regarding the science to support the potential support of a healthy inflammatory response and temporary relief of minor muscle pain associated with strenuous activity, Phillips said that one study has been completed but not yet published and the company is working on a protocol for a second study.
