Calcium & vitamin D
Vitamin D and calcium are perhaps the most traditionally accepted players in bone and joint health - with vitamin D helping to regulate the amount of calcium in the body.
Last year researchers called into question the efficacy of vitamin D3 supplementation alone - suggesting its bone health effects for post-menopausal women were best in conjunction with calcium. Calcium alone also had noticeable benefits.
The vitamin received another blow when this year an extensive British Medical Journal review suggested its benefits were unconfirmed - even for bone density.
