Researchers have pointed towards prebiotic fibres’ ability to boost bone strength by changing the flora in the colon, which may improve the solubility of minerals like calcium.
In January this year the results of a human trial suggested that a calcium-prebiotic combination may boost bone health more than calcium alone. The researchers used short-chain fructo-oligosaccharide to look at possible bone benefits for post-menopausal women – a population with a risk of bone density loss.
