Correll, a 23 year veteran of the FDA foods program, will hold the position while the agency selects a new director for that program.
According to FDA, Correll has acquired considerable experience as a manager and a compliance officer, including multiple directorship positions within the Office of Compliance in FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN). These have included leading that office’s Division of Enforcement, the Division of Field Programs & Guidance, and the Labeling and Dietary Supplements Compliance Team. He has also served as both Acting Director and Deputy Director of that office.

Dr Fabricant left FDA on April 18, 2014 after three years at the agency. The FDA said that, during his tenure, the agency took several court enforcement actions and issued numerous Warning Letters to companies marketing products as dietary supplements. The infractions included adulteration, mislabeling and violations of Good Manufacturing Practice requirements. FDA intends to continue these efforts - including inspections of manufacturing facilities and enforcement actions when necessary - to ensure dietary supplement products are safe for consumers and comply with all other requirements of federal law.
“Dr. Fabricant worked hard to strengthen the FDA dietary supplement program,” said FDA. “We thank him for his service to the agency and his efforts to ensure that dietary supplements are in compliance with all FDA regulations, are properly labeled, and safe for use. We wish him the best in his new role.”
