Codex confirms IADSA-backed nutrient levels

11 nutrients were added to the Codex Guidelines on Nutrition Labelling.
They are:
- Vitamin K (60mcg)
- Vitamin B6 (1.3mg)
- Vitamin B12 (2.4mcg)
- Biotin (30mcg)
- Folate (400mcg)
- Niacin (15mg)
- Pantothenate (5mg)
- Riboflavin (1.2mg)
- Thiamin (1.2mg)
- Calcium (1000mg)
- Iodine (150mcg)
The Codex Guidelines on Nutrition Labelling require food products bearing nutrition claims to state their nutrient content on labels.
“We are pleased that the Codex Alimentarius Commission has adopted these NRVs because they reflect the latest research on nutritional requirements,” said IADSA Director of Regulatory Affairs David Pineda Ereño in a statement.
“These are important because the NRVs agreed by Codex will be implemented by governments worldwide and will have an impact on the labelling of most nutrition claims.”
“IADSA has provided and will continue to provide scientific and technical assistance to Codex on this matter as needed.”
15 other nutrients are set for discussion at the next meeting of the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Specific Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) later in the year.
