The explosion and fire killed three workers and completely destroyed its original facility, where Neptune extracted its krill oil for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications, and it heavily damaged an expansion facility that was almost ready to go online at the time of the explosion.
Neptune plans to rebuild its plant by overhauling the expansion facility. All necessary permits are in place, and the company said it has contracted with engineering and architectural firms.
Neptune said it expects the finished facility to have an increased capacity over the facility it is replacing, but did not specify tonnage totals.
In addition to the rebuilt facility, Neptune is pursuing a strategy of enlisting a contract manufacturing partner to provide manufacturing flexibility and security, and said recently it has narrowed the list of candidates and expects to make a decision soon.
