India
A combination of poor diet—a result of poverty or the lack of locally available vitamin A rich foods—and limited or no access to health care in India has left 62% of all preschool-age children in India vitamin A deficient (VAD). VAD can compromise children’s immune systems and make them more vulnerable to common childhood illnesses like measles or diarrhea which can quickly escalate to life-threatening conditions.
Vitamin Angels is delivering enough vitamin A (an intervention shown to increase their chances of survival by 24%) to reach 3.1 million children in India alone this year.
