Spanish company sponsors ABC’s olive info
The American Botanical Council announced yesterday that Natac, a Spanish natural products company, has agreed to sponsor ABC’s information on olives through its Adopt-an-Herb Program.

Natac’s three-year commitment will fund ABC’s efforts to keep the HerbMedPro database up to date with the latest sceientic and clinical  research on olive.

Olive (Olea europaea) is one of the oldest cultivated tree fruits, with a history dating back to 3500 BCE.  Trade in olives and olive oil helped fuel the growth of commerce in the early Bronze Age.

Historically, olive oil has been used medicinally for intestinal gas, lubrication of the intestines, and as a mild laxative. Externally, it has been applied to soothe minor burns and dry skin and to treat stretch marks. Olive oil is one of the most representative components of the Mediterranean diet; the olive tree offers a wide range of healthy ingredients and components, including the natural chemicals oleuropein, hydroxytyrosol, and triterpenic acids (such as oleanolic, maslinic, and ursolic acids).

Natac joins 15 other sponsors of the database, which includes abstracts of scientific and clinical publications on more than 250 commonly used medicinal herbs.
