Glanbia Nutritionals to distribute pTeroPure in North America for ChromaDex
A proprietary nature identical synthetic formulation of an antioxidant called pterostilbene found in blueberries, pTeroPure also features in a new branded line of supplements from ChromaDex called BluScience.
"Partnering with a large, exceptionally strong company like Glanbia is a tremendous next step in expanding pTeroPure's adoption into numerous consumer products,” said ChromaDex president William Spengler.
“With our upcoming human clinical data release and our various patents pending, in combination with Glanbia's strong distribution base, we are now very well-positioned to more rapidly accelerate our national expansion of pTeroPure.”
Momentum is building
Momentum behind pTeroPure is continuing to build with growing interest from food manufacturers and a deal that will see BluScience listed at Walgreens stores nationwide, senior product development manager Jeremy Bartos told NutraIngredients-USA earlier this month.
Walgreens will carry two BluScience lines (HeartBlu and EternalBlu) by the end of the first quarter and two more (MemoryBlu and Blu2Go) by the end of the second quarter, he said.
Functional foods and beverages
Discussions are also progressing with food and beverage manufacturers looking to incorporate pTeroPure in new products this year following its recent launch in the Dodo Organics product range, said Bartos.
Interest in the health benefits of pterostilbene is focused on cardiovascular health, cognitive function and anti-aging, he said, with a human clinical trial on its effects on cholesterol, blood pressure and markers of oxidative stress well underway and a new trial on cognitive function in the pipeline.
