NCCAM’s welcomes four new Advisory Council members

Four new members have joined the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine’s (NCCAM) National Advisory Council for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

The council, which serves as the principal advisory body to NCCAM, includes physicians, scientists, licensed CAM practitioners, and members of the public who contribute their time and expertise over a four-year term.

The new council members are:

Brian Berman, MD: Professor of family medicine at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the founder and director of the University of Maryland Center for Integrative Medicine.

Daniel Cherkin, PhD: Senior scientific investigator with the Group Health Research Institute in Seattle and affiliate professor of family medicine and health services at the University of Washington.

David Kingston, PhD: University distinguished professor of bioorganic and natural products at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg. He served as the president of the American Society of Pharmacognosy and is currently a research associate of the Missouri Botanical Garden.

James Lloyd Michener, MD: Chairman of the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Duke University, Durham, N.C. and director of the Duke Center for Community Research. He is also a clinical professor in the Duke School of Nursing.
