The Natural Products Association (NPA) continues to engage the 112th Congress with the launch of its NPA Fact of the Week, a weekly e-mail sent to Congressional staffers who handle health issues for their representative or senator.

John Gay, NPA executive director and CEO told NutraIngredients-USA: “The aim is to provide a steady stream of reliable information so that helps recognition, credibility and interest over time. And, of course, the Fact of the Week is one piece of a broader strategy.

The first email was sent on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, highlighting a recent study released in the Journal of Nutrition that shows about one-half of the U.S. population uses dietary supplements, while about one-third uses multivitamin-multimineral dietary supplements.

“This new effort helps us educate both the newly-elected and veteran members of Congress so that they are well-informed about the issues facing our industry. The NPA Fact of the Week also gives us an opportunity to provide accurate information about dietary supplements and how they support consumer health," added Gay.
