The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) will be presenting an in-person training course to promote the correct identification of raw botanical materials.

The Microscopic Identification of Popular Botanical Materials will take place November 13 and 14, 2010 and will give participants with the experience necessary to confidently conduct microscopic analysis on a variety of popular botanical ingredients.

“Correctly identifying herbal raw material is one of the trickiest and yet most crucial aspects of manufacturing herbal products,” explained Devon Powell, AHPA’s Chief Operations Officer. “It’s also required by GMPs. AHPA is uniquely qualified to teach this to manufacturers.”

The course will “create an understanding of the characteristic cellular features of each plant part examined using botanical microscopy techniques developed over the last century by botanists all over the world,” said AHPA. “Participants will spend a significant amount of time during the program conducting hands-on training using a microscope under the guidance of a seasoned and veteran microscopist.”
