New online resource guides athletes to ‘safe’ supplements
The tool provides a list of all products that have been approved under NSF’s certification program, which is a voluntary program that supplement makers can sign up for.
As part of the group’s Athletic Banned Substances Certification program, the new resource, available here, was developed to provide user-friendly access to relevant product information for users of sports supplements.
“Consumers and coaches athletes had some questions about our program, and it was difficult for them to sift through the listings and information on our website. This new site simplifies the information for them in an easy to use way,” the group told NutraIngredients-USA.com
The resource includes a list of 51 different products, made by 15 different companies, under its ‘Certified for Sport listed products’ section.
According to NSF, the site makes it clear that this is not an exhaustive list, but that it is only a list of products that have achieved NSF certification.
NSF Certification
The group’s certification program tests products for banned substances or other forms of adulteration. It also verifies that label claims are accurate and correspond to a product’s formulation.
Products that have been certified by the program bear the NSF Certified for Sport Mark, which certify that they have met the following requirements:
- Toxicology review
- Facility inspection/Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) audit
- Annual laboratory testing/analysis
- Product certification
