Shares in the Californian marketer and distributor of functional drinks and nutrition bars rose 332 percent in 2004, making it the year's big winner according to life sciences merchant bank Burrill.
The company reported record sales and profits for the third quarter: gross sales were up almost 60 percent and net sales 58 percent.
Nature's Sunshine Products was another strong performer, with shares rising 142 percent in 2004. After a 32 percent increase in net sales of its encapsulated herbs and vitamins in the third quarter, shares were up 22 percent in December.
Circle Group Holdings saw shares soar by 68 percent in December alone thanks to FiberGel Technologies' introduction of a non-GMO version of Z-Trim zero calorie fat replacement and dietary fiber supplement.
The launch came too late to make an impact on shares for the entire year, which were up only 7 percent for 2004, but Circle Group expects to garner a good deal of interest in this innovation throughout 2005, particularly from European food companies.
