Canadian firm Flora Manufacturing and Distributing is launching a major campaign to promote the echinacea-based flu remedy SambuGuard to consumers this winter.

The campaign started this month and will run throughout North America to March 2004. It includes new in-store promotions as well as a national advertising campaign.

SambuGuard, developed by Flora's sister company, the Swiss firm Dr.Dunner, is a liquid formula containing elderberries, traditionally used to fight germs, elderflowers, thought to alleviate sinus and bronchial congestions, echinacea extract, shown to enhance immunity, and vitamin C.

The firm claims that when taken immediately after the occurrence of symptoms such as congestion or sore throat, the product may prevent the onset of full-blown colds and flus.

"With fall and winter approaching we saw the need to spotlight a cold and flu product that can provide North Americans with a safe and natural remedy," said Tobias Aysslinger, Dr. Dunner category manager for North America.

"The active ingredients in SambuGuard were specifically chosen for their efficacyand their ability to boost immune response. This truly is a unique productwith a great taste and proven results."

Flora Manufacturing and Distributing is the sole distributor of Dr. Dunner products to the North American market.
