NBTY, the US-based manufacturer and marketer of dietary supplements, has announced the acquisition of the Synergy Plus line of supplements for an undisclosed sum.

The independent company behind Synergy Plus has been producing vitamins since 1972, and has a reputation as a one of the more upmarket brands available. The NBTY deal includes the Synergy Plus trademark and related assets.

NBTY's chairman Scott Rudolph said: "NBTY continues to focus its energies on expanding its wholesale division. The acquisition of Synergy Plus is another step in growing that aspect of our business."

The Synergy Plus business has concentrated on selling via health food stores and, latterly, via the Internet.

The range of vitamins will be added to NBTY's existing portfolio of Nature's Bounty, Vitamin World, Puritan's Pride, Holland & Barrett, Nutrition Headquarters, American Health, Nutrition Warehouse and Dynamic Essentials nutritional supplements.
