Mannatech Inc. of Texas has been awarded a patent by the Australian Patent Office for the glyconutrient blend listed as 'Compositions of Plant Carbohydrates as Dietary Supplements.'

Robert M. Henry, Mannatech chief executive officer, said: "Our position as a leader in glyconutrition is strengthened each time a new patent is issued to us, particularly this time, because Australia is a country in which we already have a strong business established."

Glyconutrients are saccharides which code information and translate commands from one cell to another throughout the body, and are core ingredients for nutritional supplements. They are used in the body's natural recognition and defence system as nutritional support for promotion and maintenance of good health.

Mannatech has filed US and foreign patent applications for glyconutritionals. The Republic of South Africa was the first country to issue a patent to Mannatech in 1998 followed by Singapore, New Zealand and now Australia in 2001.
