"Wellness" drinks are currently recording high growth rates in the beverage industry. According to a statement from German ingredients company Wild, multifruit combinations, which offer the consumer an added benefit due to the addition of functional ingredients, are particularly successful. Following the success of the orange carrot drinks developed by WILD several years ago, the company launched at the FiE in London this November the health-promoting purple carrot product. . Purple Carrot originates from North Africa. This exotic variety of carrot is particularly interesting for the food industry because of its high anthocyan content, which also gives the root its characteristic dark colouring. Anthocyans belong to the secondary plant product, which, according to recent food research, may protect the cells in the human metabolism process and decrease the risk of cardiovascular diseases. A purple carrot beverage has been developed by WILD and is available in a red multifruit taste with added B6, B12 and folic acid. Wild added that the growth of still drinks (increasing 7 per cent annually)is almost double their carbonated counterparts.
