A Holistic Solution to Joint Degeneration and Discomfort:
A synergy of hydrolyzed collagen type II, hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin sulfate
The synovial joint, the most common and active joint in the body, is characterized by the articular cartilage and the synovial fluid. Collagen type II, hyaluronic acid (HA), chondroitin sulfate are key protein and glycosaminoglycan (GAG) molecules essential for the healthy structure and function of the cartilage while HA is a major lubricating molecule in the synovial fluid. Unfortunately, natural aging process and repeated strenuous activity entails their degradation leading to chronic joint conditions accompanied by various crippling symptoms. This complex process can be most effectively addressed by a holistic approach via a synergy among the natural constituents of joint structure.
What is BioCell Collagen®?
BioCell Collagen provides essential nutrients for improving and maintaining healthy joints. This award winning* ingredient is a naturally occurring matrix of hydrolyzed collagen type II and low molecular weight (LMW) HA and chondroitin sulfate, all of which contribute to the maintenance of healthy joint cartilage and synovial fluid. Additionally, BioCell Collagen’s patented technology makes these three cartilage-forming molecules highly bioavailable for fast and effective absorption, and it may help rebuild worn-down cartilage as well.
Composition of BioCell Collagen®: the Cartilage Mirror
BioCell Collagen is an innovative ingredient providing comprehensive joint support because its composition (60% of collagen type II, 20% of chondroitin sulfate, and 10% of HA) mirrors that of the articular cartilage of the synovial joint, which is involved in the diverse movements of our body.
An Award-winning, Comprehensive Solution for Joint Health
1. Joint Health Ingredient of the Year Award (2011) by Frost & Sullilvan
BioCell Collagen offers a patented, comprehensive solution for healthy joints through multiple mechanisms of action. Its innovative technology and exceptional scientific substantiation was recognized by the prestigious award, “Joint health ingredient of the year” by Frost & Sullivan.
2. Multiple human clinical trials
Three clinical trials over the decade demonstrated the safety and efficacy of BioCell Collagen in significantly improving joint comfort and mobility.
1) BioCell Collagen® on subjective pain caused by various joint discomfort
This trial enrolled 89 subjects who were experiencing pain caused by joint conditions. They ingested 2 grams daily of BioCell Collagen for 45 days. Out of 89, 80 subjects (89%) experienced a degree of pain relief, whereas only one subject who took placebo had the benefit. No adverse events associated with BioCell Collagen were reported.
2) BioCell Collagen® on chronic joint discomfort
This randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled trial enrolled 16 subjects who had joint discomfort. The safety and efficacy of BioCell Collagen in managing the joint discomfort was investigated by using the WOMAC index. The subjects ingested 2 grams daily of BioCell Collagen for 8 weeks. As compared to placebo, BioCell Collagen significantly reduced the joint discomfort as much as 40% at the end of the study. No adverse events associated with BioCell Collagen were reported. The study details were presented at the international conference of Experimental Biology, 2004, Washington, DC.
3) BioCell Collagen® on chronic joint discomfort – expanded, confirmatory clinical trial
This randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled trial enrolled 80 subjects who had joint discomfort. The safety and efficacy of BioCell Collagen in managing joint discomfort was investigated by using the WOMAC index. The subjects ingested 2 grams daily of BioCell Collagen for 10 weeks. As compared to placebo, BioCell Collagen significantly reduced joint discomfort, confirming the earlier trial discussed above. No adverse events associated with BioCell Collagen were reported. The study outcome has been submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
3. Multi-layered mechanisms for comprehensive joint support
1) Patented hydrolysis process for efficient absorption
BioCell Collagen is produced by using a patented hydrolysis process which optimizes the molecular size of collagen, HA, and chondroitin sulfate for fast and effective absorption. For example, a study showed that consumption of BioCell Collagen led to an increase in blood HA levels by sixty times.
2) Replenishing structural components essential for healthy joints
BioCell Collagen provides the building blocks of macromolecular collagen, HA, and chondroitin sulfate essential for the healthy structure and function of cartilage and synovial fluid.
3) Stimulation of cartilage chondrocytes by hydrolyzed collagen type II
BioCell Collagen is not only bioavailable, it’s also biologically active. Chondrocytes, residing exclusively in the cartilage, are responsible for the biosynthesis of collagen type II, HA, and chondroitin sulfate. Hydrolyzed collagen type II contained in BioCell Collagen was shown to stimulate these cells to produce collagen type II, suggesting that BioCell Collagen® may help regenerate degraded cartilage.
4) Provision of highly bioavailable HA essential for joint lubrication
HA, found in virtually all tissues, plays two important roles in the joint. First it acts as a key structural molecule to make a healthy cartilage. Second, HA serves as a major lubricating molecule of the synovial fluid. BioCell Collagen is a nature’s premier source of this versatile molecule as well as collagen type II.
No adverse effects in association with BioCell Collagen are reported during all clinical studies. BioCell Collagen is considered to be GRAS (generally recognized as safe) as well.
