The 2010 deadline for Canadian health care products to be registered under the Natural Health Products Directive (NHPD) legislation will not be the shock many are expecting, according to a Canadian consultancy.
NHP regulations dictate natural products must gain a Natural Products license by January 1, 2010, but Dicentra Inc says Health Canada will act with a soft touch as the deadline approaches, due in part to a backlog in applications.
The fact the regulation says, βAll natural health products must comply with all the Regulations by January 1, 2010β, should be understood in the context of a backlog and a focus on drug-like products.
βThe NHPD has stated that they will not focus their enforcement action on those products that do not pose an undue risk,β Dicentra said.
