Strong growth in the Americas and Asia is helping the probiotics industry to strong success, while the European market recovers from regulatory challenges by focusing on blends and 'piggybacking claims', say probiotics business experts.

Probiotic suppliers are looking to help European manufacturers 'kick start' growth in Europe after the current regulatory environment created 'a hump' for many businesses.

Speaking to NutraIngredients at the recent Vitafoods Europe 2014 show, George Paraskevakos, business development manager at Lallemend Health Solution and Lasse Nagell, VP sales and marketing at Chr. Hansen said that business is looking good for probiotics on a global scale - with the EU market showing signs of growth too.

"Probiotics is the industry to be in right now," said Paraskevakos. "It's a great industry and we have seen growth in almost all areas."

"Asia is another burgeoning area that we are seeing a lot of growth," said the Lallemend expert.

"We still see pockets of growth in Europe, but in general the markets are chellenged," added Nagell - who noted that North America has been on 'a fantastic growth curve for several years years', while there are also 'fantastic opportunities' in Latin and Central America
