Lallemand probiotics plants pass USP GMP audits
Lallemend’s plants in Montreal and Mirabel, both in Quebec, have passed GMP and quality systems audits conducted by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). According to Lallemand, this makes the plants the first in the probiotics space to receive such certifications from USP.
“Such achievement illustrates our long-standing commitment to quality and demonstrates the level of our quality systems. For our customers, this helps provide them with assurance in the quality of our probiotic production operation. It also represents a stepping stone for those willing to get their finished product compliant with the USP verified program,” said Francine Mondou, president of Lallemand Health Solutions.
Lallemand will announce a new range of probiotics designed for children and teenagers at the upcoming SupplySide West show in Las Vegas, September 26 to 29.
The new range, marketed for immune defenses, stress, and oral health, includes specific strains and formulations for younger consumers, designed in delivery forms and flavors to target children, teenagers, and health conscious parents.
According to the company, the new development comes as both US and Canadian health authorities accept Lallemand’s ProbioKid ingredient’s use for young children. In Canada, the ingredient received a Natural Product Number (NPN), extended to include infants back in May, whereas in the US it is self-affirmed GRAS.
