Sabinsa expands facility for global market

By staff reporter , 13-Feb-2007

With the announcement of a new extension to its manufacturing and distribution facility, Sabinsa Corporation is preparing to take its business into new global markets.

The manufacturer and supplier of herbal extracts, cosmeceuticals, minerals and specialty fine chemicals has announced it is completing construction of a 17,000 square foot expansion facility in Payson, Utah, in order to extend the company's manufacturing capacity.

The company's expansion and upgrade is in part being pushed forward on the basis of manufacturing to meeting regulatory standards that differ from country to country.

The facility will operate under the name Sabinsa Manufacturing and the company said it will work to secure Australian TGA and other international regulatory certifications to better serve domestic clients who distribute internationally.

"Our new facility extends the company's vision of being a world leader in quality, science-based ingredients by offering additional processes to help us meet increasing customer demands," said Ed Olson, Sabinsa senior vice president of manufacturing. "This expansion extends our vertical integration making us an even better resource for our clients."

The upgraded facility includes new technology that will provide high volume capacity in fluid bed processing/granulation and high volume custom drum-to-hopper blends.

Sabinsa is also constructing analytical, microbiological and pilot laboratories to assure product quality and consistency and facilitate product development and efficient batch scale-up.

The company has indicated it is in discussion to develop new business for the facility, though it has not specified what kind of business. The facility's operations are set to begin in March, when installation qualifications and operational qualifications are scheduled to be completed.

Sabinsa said it has brought more than 50 standardized extracts to market and that it has more than 100 scientists conducting research in India and the United States.
