FutureCeuticals self-affirms GRAS for trace mineral complex

Illinois-based VDF FutureCeuticals has achieved self-affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status for its elemin Senonian Trace Minerals for use in food and beverages.

A comprehensive review by an independent panel of experts concluded that the company’s all-natural complex of over 70 plant-based trace minerals is safe for use in beverages and energy and nutritional bars, in addition to dietary supplements, said the company.

The ingredient is said to be a cold-water extract from an ancient peat (plant) deposit laid down during the Cretaceous period nearly 70 million years ago. The 100% water-soluble fine white powder reportedly contains over 70 plant-based, small particle minerals.

The expert panel was organized by Dr. James Heimbach, president of JHeimbach, LLC and former head of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Consumer Research and Education Staff.
