Dietary supplement stakeholders in Utah will next week have the chance to meet Chinese officials for an update on the regions’ natural health industries, and their growing collaboration in the field.
Organized by trade group United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA), the China Roundtable will provide updates on recent developments affecting the industry, as well as insight into the future direction of natural products in China.
“This will be an unusual opportunity to gain insight on the evolving nature of regulation affecting dietary supplements and cosmetics in China and to meet some of the important officials involved in establishing the present and future research and regulatory priorities in China,” said Loren Israelsen, executive director of UNPA.
The day-long discussions will involve speakers from China’s Institute of Nutrition and Food Safety, State Center for Disease Control, Zhejiang Institute for Food and Drug Control, China Cosmetics Research Center and Beijing Technology and Business University and Prevention.
US speakers include representatives from Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development, the University of Utah, and the Utah Department of Health and the BioInnovations Gateway (USTAR).
“We are really pleased to welcome a high level delegation of Chinese officials who are visiting Utah to listen, learn and deepen cooperation with Utah's dietary supplement and natural health industries,” said Israelsen.
As well as the regulatory examination, discussions will include some of the challenges faced by the industry, including analytical testing, certification and supply chain management between China and the United States.
Topics on the agenda include:
- Certification and testing of dietary ingredients
- Chinese government standards and regulations affecting dietary ingredients
- Research and scientific progress in China for traditional medicines
- Coordination of regulatory standards between the US and China
The roundtable will take place on September 9, 2010 at the University of Utah Officer's Club. More information can be found here .
