AuthenTechnologies awarded grant to develop new DNA technology for identification of finished products & botanical extracts

The National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine has awarded AuthenTechnologies LLC a prestigious Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to develop a new genetic test for identification of finished products & botanical extracts.

The DNA-based botanical authentication specialist, which is celebrating its fourth birthday, will develop a new genetic test called Detect IDNA to advance the ability to detect and identify contaminants and adulterants in both raw materials, as well as identify species in highly processed materials such as finish products and botanical extracts.

AuthenTechnologies is collaborating with scientists at the National Center of Natural Products Research at the University of Mississippi to develop and validate the new technology, and expects to release to the public by the last quarter of 2014.
