In a deal set to boost revenue by $5 million this year, the water-based drinks manufacturer Tropical Beverage will produce and supply the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) with water containing an advanced electrolyte formula. The move forms part of new rules enforced by LAUSD intended to curb obesity in children.
"We believe this relationship will generate substantial revenues to our bottom line as we continue to build shareholder value," said Chris Lotito, chief financial officer of Tropical Beverage.
The company estimates initial orders of 15,000 cases per month of its advanced electrolyte formula and approximately 55,000 cases of water per month.
Products included in the company's line includes flavored waters, vapor distilled waters, micro clustered waters and waters with additives - including oxygen, caffeine, electrolytes and other minerals and vitamins.
On the acquisition trail, Tropical Beverages said in a statement on Thursday that it is on the look out for 'related companies that will enhance their product development and to build a network of subsidiaries across the nation'.
On Tuesday NutraIngredientsUSA.com reported that schoolchildren in 38 school districts in Texas are due for a boost to the brain. Fish oil manufacturer Omega Protein has signed a deal to supply the districts with its OmegaPure fish oil brand - refined from short-lived, surface-feeding menhaden - for fortifying a range of foods in the schools.
