InterHealth’s UC-II ‘safe and effective’ for supporting joint health

By Stephen DANIELLS , 07-Feb-2013

Supplements of InterHealth Nutraceuticals undenatured type II collagen UC-II may improve joint flexibility as assessed by knee extension, compared to placebo, says a new study.

Results of the 17-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study with 55 participants were presented at the 2013 Scripps Natural Supplement Conference. The research abstract will be published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.

Principal researcher, Jay Udani, MD, CEO of Medicus Research, reported: “Supplementation with UC-II for seventeen weeks was well-tolerated and more effective than placebo in supporting joint comfort, flexibility and mobility.”

The study used healthy participants and none met the American College of Rheumatology criteria for osteoarthritis.

The study supports 2009 findings published in International Journal of Medical Sciences (Vol. 6, pp. 312-321), said InterHealth.

“The research results from this healthy population study not only represents great clinical findings in terms of UC-II and joint health, but represent a great marketing opportunity for dietary supplement manufacturers as well,” said Jay Martin, VP of sales and marketing at InterHealth.
