In response to an article we published this week on the use of herbal remedies to ease menopausal symptoms US company Himalaya USA pointed out that sales of its natural menopausal support remedy, MenoCare (also known as Menosim) have doubled in the last month.

They proffer that the increased growth could be linked to the resurgence of 'unfavourable findings surrounding synthetic hormone replacement therapies (HRTs) and conditions such as coronary heart disease (CHD) and breast cancer'.

The company highlights the results of a phase III open clinical trial of MenoCare published in the medical journal The Antiseptic(Vol. 98, No. 3 pp. 87-89) that confirmed earlier data of the 'efficacy of MenoCare in mitigating unpleasant menopausal symptoms'.

For the study 28 postmenopausal women were treated with MenoCare taken daily for a period of three months. Following treatment, researchers reported occurrences of hot flashes decreased by 96.2 per cent, night sweating by 100 per cent and insomnia by 71 per cent, reports Himalaya USA.

"Mounting evidence against conventional HRTs is forcing menopausal women to seek safe and effective alternatives. Natural formulations such as MenoCare help bring hormones back into balance and provide relief from uncomfortable changes associated with the menopausal transition," said Philip Duterme, president and CEO of Himalaya USA.

MenoCare is a blend of several different herbs including the Indian herbs ashwagandha, haritaki, licorice and shatavari.
