Albion aims for ‘distinct advantage in product development’ with new Cell Biology lab

By Stephen Daniells , 26-Feb-2013

Albion Human Nutrition has opened a new Cell Biology Laboratory to allow researchers to rapidly gather data and give the company a distinct advantage in product development and comparative studies.

The new lab, located at Albion’s headquarters in Clearfield, Utah, will allow for rapid data collection on mineral transport, absorption, toxicity and efficacy through in vitro simulations.

“Because cell cultures can be used to construct highly controlled models of various biological systems, the ability to evaluate such systems may reduce, and in some cases, eliminate the need for animal or human trials,” explained the company.

“Thus, Albion anticipates a reduction in cost and a faster turnaround for specific test results.”

The cell lab will also be equipped with a Real-Time PCR instrument, which allows precise quantification of specific nucleic acids (DNA/RNA/genes) in a complex mixture.
