A senate committee will next week hold a hearing on hidden steroids in body building products, with participants including food industry representatives, food lawyers and government agencies.

The hearing, from the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs, is likely to come as a hit the supplements industry, which has struggled to maintain its credibility as numerous products have been found to be contaminated with steroids.

Participants at the hearing include Michael Levy, Division Director, Office of Compliance at the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, as well as Joseph Rannazzisi from the US Department of Justice’s Office of Diversion Control, Drug Enforcement Administration.

Daniel Fabricant, acting CEO of the supplement trade group Natural Products Association will also be in attendance, as well as Richard Kingham from the law firm Covington & Burling.
