Loders Croklaan's US division said last week it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Norwegian company Natural in the United States District Court in Delaware.
The nutritional oils manufacturer is claiming that the processes Natural uses to manufacture its Tonalin brand conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) infringes two Loders Croklaan patents.
Loders Croklaan is seeking monetary damages for Natural's infringement of its patents and an injunction prohibiting Natural from infringing its patents in the future.
"These patents are important to Loders Croklaan, and we believe it is important to protect our intellectual property against infringement," said Aat Visser, Loders Croklaan general manager for Lipid Nutrition.
Loders Croklaan, which supplies its specialty oils and fats to dietary supplement and functional food makers, markets the Clarinol brand CLA used for body weight management.
Norwegian fatty acid manufacturer Natural last week completed an agreement with Cognis, which now has exclusive marketing rights of the Tonalin product and trademark.
