Industry trade association the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) has issued a statement stressing its stance against companies making unsupported product claims for preventing or treating SARS.
"We support the actions of the FDA and the FTC in implementing their regulatory authority under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) by taking action against companies that are making illegal and scientifically unsupported product claims for preventing, treating or curing SARS. Our industry is committed to working with these regulatory agencies to ensure consumers have access to high quality, safe, and beneficial dietary supplement products," said Dr Annette Dickinson, CRN president.
Dr Dickinson was responding to a joint press conference call held Friday by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The association last month released an advisory, along with other trade associations , against the marketing, sale, or use of dietary supplements as a remedy for SARS.
