Novel vitamin E to reach Australian market

12-Apr-2005

A novel form of vitamin E, developed by Australian firm Phosphagenics, will reach new markets under a new agreement with multivitamin brand Swisse Vitamins.

The patented vitamin E phosphate, said to offer increased uptake of vitamin E by the body, is currently only marketed in North American by Zila Nutraceuticals, which markets it as Ester-E.

Under the new agreement the ingredient will be formulated into Swisse Vitamins' flagship Ultivite multivitamins range and sold as a stand alone soft gel capsule under the vitamin maker's own label.

Swisse Vitamins may consider other countries.

AIM-listed Phosphagenics recently announced that the ingredient, called Phospha E, reduced cardiovascular disease risk factors in an animal study.

The new agreement will help the AIM-listed firm increase its share of the growing vitamin E market.

Managing sirector Ian Pattison called the partnership a "significant commercial milestone".
