The United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA) has announced a formal, collaborative partnership with Bastyr University as its newest Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Partner.

Based just outside of Seattle, Bastyr University offers the only accredited degree program in herbal sciences in the United States—a program that equips students with both scientific knowledge and a multifaceted, personal understanding of plants, empowering them to bridge the gap between traditional herbalism and modern sciences.

“We are proud to be part of the growing UNPA brain trust,” said Mac Powell, PhD, president of Bastyr University. “Bastyr is committed to promoting and advancing the knowledge and understanding of natural health arts and sciences, including natural products. We look forward to supporting UNPA’s efforts to ensure the production and sale of safe and responsible products, which is essential to meet the growing demand and use of these products.”

UNPA President Loren Israelsen was a member of the Bastyr Board of Regents from 2001-2004, and has been invited to join the Bastyr University Council, an advisory board of thought leaders and community supporters brought together to help the university implement its 2021 strategic plan.

“I am personally delighted to once again to be working with our colleagues and friends at Bastyr University,” said Israelsen.

“Under the new leadership of Dr. Mac Powell, we see a great opportunity to strengthen the important ties between the naturopathic and natural products communities.”
