Medicus’ Wellness App to help consumers with supplement compliance
Medicus Research is rolling out its software engine from clinical trials as Wellness Apps for dietary supplement brands intended to help consumers track their own compliance and send reminders to re-purchase.

Manufacturers, distributors, and retailers can license the apps from Medicus Research and customize them based on a product’s structure function claims. The apps are intended to be given as a gift to purchasers of a company’s dietary supplements.

The California-based contract research organization (CRO) is translating expertise from running clinical trials and software development to offer branded wellness apps. Unlike any other health and wellness app, the Wellness Apps are engineered to demonstrate scientifically-based, individualized, real-life product results based on structure function claims, said the company.

“This is translational wellness,” said Dr Jay Udani, Medicus Research CEO and Wellness Apps creator. “The app can send reminders to take the supplement, and it engages the consumer with individual brands.”

“This plays into the repurchase decision for a brand,” Dr Udani told us.

Every day, the customer receives an alert reminding them to take the product and asks them to answer a few simple questions about the product’s efficacy.

Behavioral pathways

“We designed the apps to engage purchasers of dietary supplements by giving them an easy way to record structure/function wellness data on a daily basis and demonstrating for them the efficacy of the product through visual graphics,” explained Dr Udani.

“This promotes daily engagement with the company’s brand, compliance with the product, and drives repurchase behavior using the same underlying mobile technologies that we developed and have used for years in our clinical trials.”

The app is designed along behavioral pathways, he added. “If it’s too complicated or against their normal behavior then consumers will not use it.”

Dr Udani confirmed that he is in negotiations with “several interested parties” for the app, which allows consumers to track their own wellness, and track compliance over 7 days, 30 days or three months. The apps are customizable to allow brands to send product-specific notifications, including company news and announcements, special promotions, coupons, and more.
